You can view the system requirements and the disk usage of MATLAB in the following link:

The minimum hardware requirements are the same for the Student and Professional licenses. For R2016b on Windows, those are:
  • Any Intel or AMD x86-64 processor
  • disk: 2 GB for MATLAB only, 4–6 GB for a typical installation
  • memory: 2 GB, or 4 GB if you use Simulink
These are the minimum. There are some additional graphics and CPU recommendations.

It does not answer the question that what is the disk space requirement of each matlab toolbox separately. Is there a list of that somewhere for the current release?

An actual answer to this question (for Mac R2019a):
MATLAB 9.6 = 4095 MB
Simulink 9.3 = 6335 MB
Image Processing Toolbox 10.4 = 2877 MB
Computer Vision Toolbox 9.0 = 2030 MB
Signal Processing Toolbox 8.2 = 1867 MB
Communications Toolbox 7.1 = 1481 MB
Antenna Toolbox 4.0 = 1008 MB
Parallel Computing Toolbox 7.0 = 950 MB
Deep Learning Toolbox 12.1 = 804 MB
Control System Toolbox 10.6 = 796 MB
Symbolic Math Toolbox 8.3 = 770 MB
Simscape Multibody 6.1 = 723 MB
Statistics and Machine Learning Toolbox 11.5 = 704 MB
MATLAB Compiler 7.0.1 = 602 MB
Bioinformatics Toolbox 4.12 = 541 MB
Automated Driving Toolbox 2.0 = 521 MB
Mapping Toolbox 4.8 = 515 MB
Full listing in the attached spreadsheet. Hope this helps others.

These sizes are approximate. Some of the toolboxes install items that are shared by multiple products, and some of the toolboxes install examples that are arguably for a different toolbox
(for example an Automated Driving example might involve Computer Vision and Deep Learning, and might be more an example of an application in the topic of Automated Driving without using any functionality from Automated Driving Toolbox, so it becomes debatable which toolbox the example should be stored against.)

Agreed – the exact size changes somewhat based on which other toolboxes are installed, but these are nominally correct. I found them by selecting each toolbox 1 by 1 and looking at the increase in the total installation size.

I can see that no one has answered the question.
I am installing and I can see that it will take some time if I install all the toolboxes.
So far I can tell that for example:
Processing Toolbox 260 MB
MATLAB Complier 1140 MB
Signal Proccesing 98 MB
SimScape 63 MB
Simscape multibody 129 MB
Simscape Power 141 MB
Simulink 3D anim 42 MB
Stateflow 28 MB
Machine learning 85 MB
Symbolic Math 276 MB
... ...
So for example I can see that I could avoid installing the compiler because I will not use it and it took time and space.
I hope this helps

Why do you purposely hide the toolbox size information?

Each toolbox consists of up to six different parts:
  1. operating system independent components used exclusively by the toolbox
  2. operating system independent components shared with other toolboxes, which might or might not happen to already be installed
  3. documentation
  4. MacOS specific components
  5. MS Windows specific components
  6. Linux specific components
Therefore it is not possible to sumarize the "size" of the toolbox by just one number.

Got it, but when installing it seems unusual that size information is not included on the toolbox selection page.
Dependencies are also unclear. For example, during installation I receieved a warning about needing the Communications Toolbox, but it was not obvious what toolbox was depending on it.

When I receive messages about additional toolboxes being needed, then it always tells me which toolbox is the one that needs the other toolbox.
Also if you use the Add-On Explorer to examine the products, then the dependencies are listed, and MATLAB tells you which of them you have installed and which you would need.
