This pretty much depends on which license type you are using like student version, individual professional version or concurrent.

Individual version need to be activated. Depending on your license type, your old installation may or may not needs to be deactivated.

For networked license types, bette approach your IT department.

Then this is pretty easy. Log into your MathWorks Account. Left pane My Licenses - Manage licenses. Here you can do everything you need under "Activation and Installation"
