Why am I getting the "Permission Denied" message when I try to open my diary?

diary filename saves the resulting log to filename. If the file exists, MATLAB appends the text to the end of the file. To see the name of the current diary file, type get(0,'DiaryFile').

>> get(0,'DiaryFile')

ans =

'diary'

>> fullfile(get(0,'DiaryFile'))

ans =

'diary'

What is your current folder? It's not under the Program Files folder in Windows is it? Because Windows won't let you write there.

By the way, it works for me with no error but my current folder is on my D: drive.

I downloaded the MATLAB directly onto my SSD drive considering how heavy it is, could be because I am using my instituions license.

I doubt the license type prevents it. Can you save anything else there, like

Now it shows the windows file...but I dont understand hows its possible when clearly when I was downloading the software, I chose my External SSD drive; drive E.

Based on your screenshots, your current directory was somehow changed to the C\Windows\Sys32 folder which is likely denied writing access.

Try changing your current directory to a folder where you have write permission and try again. You could try

cd(userpath())
