How can I solve a system of two pde's in MATLAB which are at different scales in space variables?

I am attaching the system of pdes below which I need to solve. These pdes represent adsorption in a packed bed. The first pde is at macro scale or at reactor scale and the second pde is at pore scale of the particles present in the packed bed. My doubt is that I would like to know whether I solve these equations in MATLAB using method of lines, that is first discretizing the space variables and the using the ode15s solver to the system of ode's.
