- Download the 39-bus system Phasor Model from here. (Go through the reviews if the Model throws an error)
- Change the settings to discrete time.
- Set the 'load flow' parameter of all the generators to 'swing' and run the load flow. The Model will converge.
- Check and note the active and reactive power contributed by each generator and the voltages at each bus.
- Check if the kVA of any machine is hitting its kVA rating. If any generator is generating more than its rating, set the kVA rating at least 10% higher than the kVA generated. In addition, check for kVA violations of transformers and change the rating accordingly.
- Next, set the generator with the highest kVA rating as the slack bus. Set all other machines as PV with P(scheduled) equal to the value obtained in Step 5. Again check if the load flow converges.
- If the load flow converges, then connect a voltmeter at any point in the grid and Run the Model for a considerable amount of time (say 40 seconds). If you are getting a proper sinusoidal stable voltage signal, then your Model is correct.
- If the voltage has a lot of swings and it increases/decreases in a weird manner, then the Model is not stable. Most probably, the Model will become stable because the Power System Stabiliser(PSS) will stabilise the swings.
- In the worst case, if the Model does not give a stable voltage signal, you have to use a trial and error method like increasing the inertia of any one machine at a time and verifying. It will not be an easy task, but I hope the Model will be stabilised by the PSS.
can you help me to find an IEEE 39 bus system as a simulation model / simulink in Discrete mode

I tried to simulate IEEE-39 NODE model in 'Discrete' mode? I can get stable results only when the 'Phasor' mode used. I Need Help
Please help me, thank you very much

Hi Li Chen,
My suggestion would be to do the following steps.
All the Best! Please share the Discrete Model if it works following these steps.
Best Regards,
Mariselvam Arumuga
