I am trying to solve this equation (y=0) to find x, but apperantly this technique can not be used for such equation:
y=100-sqrt(x)*2+x^3/20+x^(1/4)
solve(y,x)
could you please help me how to solve this equation to find x
thanks in advance.

There don't appear to be any non-complex solutions
x=roots([1/20 zeros(1,8) -2 0 -1 100]).^4
ans =
6.1819 -11.5237i 6.1819 +11.5237i -12.2614 + 0.4589i -12.2614 - 0.4589i 5.8298 +10.7456i 5.8298 -10.7456i 6.7620 -11.0777i 6.7620 +11.0777i -12.9440 + 0.4471i -12.9440 - 0.4471i 6.4316 +10.2856i 6.4316 -10.2856i
