How to generate curves with constant distance to reference curve

Hi

I have a trajectory with around 5500 points in a 5500x2 matrix (x,y coordinates of each point).

This reference trajectory will be used to generate a potential field later on.

Now I want to generate some curves around my trajectory with constant distances of fixed values.

I have heard there is a Matlab function that fulfills my need (by creating circles and taking intersection points of two circles). However I was not able to find this functions name, nor do I know in what categories to look for it.
