How to view content of a variable in a script while a called function is running and paused?

I want to view a variable content while a subsequent function is running and paused.

Example:

var_of_interest=ZZ(3,5);
.
.
.
parfor i=1:10
    called_function(x,y,z) % var_of_interest is not an argument
end

I want to view content of "var_of_interest" at the time I paused the code while it was looping in a parfor loop with a function.

The question is not clear: Where do you pause what?

This looks a kind of trivial, so perhaps I do not understand the question.

Assume some code ran once and completed its job: Then when you hover mouse arrow over a variable of interest, you typically see the stored value in the variable or alternatively when you check the variable from Workspace by a double click, again you can see what has stored in that variable.

However, if the code is being executed for the first time and you want to know value the variable "var_of_interest" contains, you need to first pause the execution by clicking the Pause button on the Editor menu and if the Workspace refreshes, then you can either hover mouse arrow over the variable in the Editor panel or double click the variable in the Workspace panel and see the value stored in the variable.

This was my way.

Now, I'm running a script including a parfor loop. The loop only calls a function and executes it. Code is still running and I need to know the value a variable (that is sitting in a former line than line of the parfor loop) currently has without breaking the execution. The variable of interest gets its value at the beginning and never changes its value. When I pause the script, the Workspace doesn't refresh, so I can't see the value of the variable.

We have seen reports about the workspace browser not refreshing during debugging. I have not replicated that myself but there have been a few people reporting it.

In the meantime, you can go to the command line and dbup until you get to the proper workspace and thrn disp the variable
