Getting Matlab GUI menus working under Linux (Ubuntu/Mint)

17 visualizzazioni (ultimi 30 giorni)
Hello, I have Matlab r2011b installed on my computer under Linux Mint. Everything is working fine except for a major problem with the GUI.
In short, the menu bar at the top is completely unusable: whenever I click on any command (file, edit,...) the drop-down menu instantly disappears, as if I were doing a double click on the command.
After some googling and searching on other sites, I was told that Java runtime was the source of many problems related to the GUI, so I manually set the MATLAB_JAVA variable to point to the jre, trying both openjdk and oracle versions. But the problem persists, so it seems this is not the cause.
Any help would be much appreciated.

What bugs me is that the same install of Matlab on the previous release of Mint worked perfectly once I set the jre path correctly.
I understand that it's difficult to pinpoint a cause, but this "bug" is not something I can just put up with. It renders Matlab almost unusable because I can't access any menu.

MATLAB runs equally well on qualified Linux distributions. For 11b prerelease, these were:
  • Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, 10.10, and 11.04
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.x and 6.x
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11.x
  • Debian 5.x

I have ubuntu12.04, but I use Cinnamon(linuxmint desktop) and matlab2012a
In ubuntu unity, Everything is OK.
But in Cinnamon, there is the same problem as you. when the window is maximized, I can't click the menu because it instantly disappears.
So I think it is the problem of Cinnamon.
