The installation process for MATLAB crashes silently during the post-installation steps on Windows 10 Builds 1809 and later. This results in an incomplete installation of MATLAB products. Some of the symptoms of this incomplete installation include the following:
  • MATLAB did not go through an activation process, instead requiring you to go through activation when first starting up MATLAB.
  • MATLAB uninstaller is not registered, and MATLAB is not found under the list of applications that could be uninstalled via Windows Settings utility (Windows Settings -> Apps -> Apps & features).
  • Some of the MATLAB and Simulink file types (e.g., MATLAB file, MAT-file, Simulink Model file) might not be properly associated with appropriate MathWorks products.
If you are unsure of what version of Windows you are using you can run the following command in a Windows command prompt.
winver
