I am trying to install MATLAB on a Windows computer, but the installer will not run. How do I resolve the issue and launch the MathWorks Product Installer?

There are a few reasons the MathWorks Product Installer might fail to run on Windows without displaying an error message or creating a crash logs:
  • System Requirements
  • Security Software
  • Administrative Permissions
  • Corrupt Installer or Network Security
  • Path Contains Non-ASCII or Accented Characters
  • Located on a Network Drive

System Requirements

Your computer may not meet the system requirements for the release of MATLAB or other MathWorks product you are attempting to install. See the system requirements page for more information:

Security Software

Some security software will interpret the MathWorks Product Installer as a false positive, and prevent the installer from running. To resolve this issue, add the MathWorks Product Installer to your program whitelist, or temporarily disable your security software.
You may need to contact your system administrator to modify your security software settings. If you are unable to change your security settings then you can boot your computer into Safe Mode with networking which will suppress your security software as long as the computer is in Safe Mode.
Note: Before booting in Safe Mode, verify that BitLocker is not enabled on the machine. BitLocker will prevent startup in Safe Mode.

Administrative Permissions

You must be a local administrator to install MATLAB. If you are not a local administrator, contact your system administrator for assistance.
If you have permissions to install MATLAB, but do not have permissions to modify the folder the installer was downloaded to, try moving the installer to a different folder.

Corrupt Installer or Network Security

If the installer fails to launch and provides no error message, the installer may be damaged or corrupt. This may happen because network security software modified the file in transit.
If you suspect the installer is damaged or corrupt, re-download the installer from the MathWorks website.
If you have any network security or other network interference such as a VPN (Virtual Private Network) or proxy server, try disabling those, deleting any old installers and temporary folders the installer made, and then redownloading the installer.

Path Contains Non-ASCII or Accented Characters

If your copy of the MathWorks Product Installer is located on a path that contains non-ASCII or accented characters, the installer may not launch. This will most likely be the case if your username has a non-ASCII or accented character and the installer is located in the user's Downloads folder.
To launch the installer, move the Installation files to the root of your C drive on Windows, /tmp on Linux, or /Applications on macOS.

Located on a Network Drive

This issue could be caused if you are running the MathWorks Product Installer from a Network Drive due to lack of permissions. To resolve, download the installer on a local drive and run it from that location.

For me, the installer was on a local drive but I fixed the problem by moving it to the system drive

I had the same problem and this C++ thing wouldn't work for me. Then I found out that the issue was me using MSI Afterburner with Riva Tuner Statistics Server! Just shutting down both of these programs and the Matlab installer worked just fine. If anyone else has this issue, make sure you don't have these two troublemakers running.
