Key Features of an Interleaved Buck Converter:
  1. Multiple Phases: Two or more buck converters are connected in parallel.
  2. Phase Shifted Operation: Each converter is switched at the same frequency but with a time offset (e.g., 180° for 2-phase).
  3. Reduced Ripple: Interleaving reduces output current and input current ripple due to cancellation effects.
  4. Thermal Distribution: Heat is spread across multiple inductors and switches.
  5. Improved Efficiency: Lower RMS currents reduce conduction losses in components.
Basic Diagram:
Each phase includes:
  • A switch (MOSFET)
  • A diode or synchronous rectifier
  • An inductor
  • Output capacitors (shared or individual)
