How It Works:
  1. Power is cut off to the stator windings (AC supply is disconnected).
  2. A DC voltage is then applied to the stator terminals.
  3. This creates a stationary magnetic field in the stator.
  4. The rotor is still rotating, so it cuts through the stator's magnetic field.
  5. This induces current in the rotor bars, which generates a braking torque.
  6. The energy is dissipated as heat in the rotor and braking resistors.
📘 Key Features:
  • No reversal of motor rotation.
  • Independent of load type (works for fans, conveyors, etc.).
  • Braking torque is proportional to rotor speed — strongest at high speed, decreases as the motor slows down.
