Validate System for Indoor Flight

R2026b

This topic describes how to verify system readiness and perform initial validation tests before flight.

Warning

Verify that Arm, Land, and Kill switches are assigned and tested before flight. If the multicopter behaves unexpectedly after arming, use the Land switch to command a landing. If the vehicle does not respond or immediate motor shutdown is required, use the Kill switch.

Perform Preflight Checks

Verify that all hardware, software, and communication interfaces function correctly before powering the vehicle.

  • Confirm that all mechanical fasteners are secure.

  • Ensure that the battery is fully charged and properly mounted.

  • Remove propellers for initial testing.

  • Verify that QGroundControl shows Ready status for all pre-arm checks.

QGroundControl main screen showing Ready status in Position flight mode, indicating all pre-arm checks have passed and the vehicle is ready for flight.

  • Ensure that the RC transmitter is powered on and bound.

  • Confirm that a kill switch is configured and tested.

  • Verify that the Raspberry Pi application is running.

If any check fails, see Troubleshoot Indoor Flight Issues for common problems and resolutions.

Perform Powered Integration Test

Verify motor operation and control response without propellers.

  1. Remove all propellers.

  2. Arm the vehicle using the RC transmitter.

  3. Increase throttle slightly and verify that all motors spin.

  4. Verify motor spin directions:

    • Front-left and rear-right rotate counterclockwise (CCW).

    • Front-right and rear-left rotate clockwise (CW).

  5. Tilt the vehicle and confirm that motor speeds adjust to stabilize motion.

  6. Disarm the vehicle.
