Pulling handle from messagebox within GUI

Hey Community,

My question is whether I can pull the handle from a messagebox that I create. I have a button that maps some GPS data and I don't want it to plot if another value isn't set. I have an if statement that checks if the needed value is set and a messagebox pops up if it isn't. However, the data then plots (incorrectly) on the messagebox rather than the gui itself

If i could pull the handle from the messagebox then I could use uiwait to hold the loop and not have it plot until the messagebox was closed by pressing the 'ok' button. Any ideas?

I don't see a problem there because it works just fine

uiwait(msgbox('Message'))

or

waitfor(msgbox('Message'))
