How we can filter out a specific color from an image?

I have a snapshot of image captured by a camera. I need to calculate the area of specific color in that image. Any suggestions in this regard will be highly appreciated.

This operation is called color thresholding and is usually done in HSV space. To my knowledge there is no built-in function in MATLAB to do that, but I found this interesting page on File Exchange:
