FIS stands for fuzzy inference system. When you design fuzzy systems with the Fuzzy Logic Toolbox you can save them to disk as a FIS file.

There are 2 ways to change an existing implementation:

1. Load the FIS into the fuzzy tool and perform changes in the tool:

fuzzy('fisname.fis')

2. Work with command line arguments: use READFIS to read the fis, GETFIS to view the properties and SETFIS to set them, then use WRITEFIS to save it again. Please also see the doc here
