Matlab 2014b on ubuntu 14.04 seems not to work; no command can be executed

Hi, it seems that matlab 2014b on my ubuntu 14.04 is not able to execute any command. Installation is fine (at least, matlab starts up fine and I do not get any errors). When matlab is loaded and ready to be used, if I issue a command (any command, even quit) it gets stuck and remains 'busy' indefinitely.

Any suggestion?

Is MATLAB installed on your local machine or on a remote/network drive?

Are there network drives on the MATLAB search path?

What is your start-up folder? Is it local or network? Does it contain large files?

Do you have other versions of MATLAB installed on the same machine? If yes, can you confirm that the same behavior does not happen with the other version?

Hi,

1) MATLAB is installed on my (local) machine

2) In the search path I see only local paths (e.g., /usr/local/MATLAB/R2014b/)

3) The start-up folder is my home, which does not contain any large file (at least in the home, but in the subfolders of course there are)

4) No other versions are installed on this local machine. With my previous setting with ubuntu 12.04 and Matlab 2014a everything was working fine. Please note also that, on another (local) machine I am running the same Matlab version (2014b) but on ubuntu 12.04, and it works fine.

I have a similar problem, but it's the graphics commands that freeze MATLAB: I can create a figure, and then on plot(0) or imagesc(), MATLAB freezes, is 'Busy' indefinitely, and I have to kill the process.

FWIW upgrading to 14.10 fixed my problem with graphics.

It is a bit annoying that one has to upgrade the whole OS just to fix MATLAB...

After upgrading the kernel to version 3.13.0-40-generic, I have reinstalled MATLAB 2014b from the beginning and now it works.
