No exifread() can exiv2 be used

I have been using exifread() to extract exposure times from a sequence of image files from their metadata. Mathworks is not going to support exifread. imfino does not appear to support exposure time as a readout. Has anyone looked at using exiv2 using DOS command to extract metadata from images into variable?
