Can I use a 3rd party MATLAB toolbox with the Python Engine API?

I am using a 3rd-party MATLAB library. Everything works fine within MATLAB, but when I try to call my MATLAB scripts from Python (using the Engine API) I get an 'unrecognized function or variable' error. Is using a 3rd party toolbox supported?

The toolbox has to be added to the path of the MATLAB engine for Python . To do this, please use the following command after starting the engine:
eng.addpath('<path to toolbox root folder>')
