How to access shared memory in external mode, using a third process?

Using Simulink Desktop Real Time in external mode, host/target communication is achieved through shared memory. Is there a way to communicate with the target using another process apart from the simulink host? For example by accessing the shared memory. I tried to have a look inside the transport layer but it's a mex64 file, I don't know how to read it.
