How to make gif format animations in MATLAB?

I want to produce gif format animation of a 3D volume object by rotating it to 360 degrees. Kindly guide me how can I do this for a power point presentation. Secondly is it possible to make gift format animation by loading .fig file. Like loading the .fig format file and then write the code to produce animation out of it?
