CAlculating alpha values for Pulse generator

Please tell how to calculate the alpha values for pulse generator for 9 level cascaded inverter
assuming angle is 20,please tell how to calculate i used
alpha*angle/360
and for another pulse generator
(180-alpha*angle)/360,but i get values in negative
please help
