I would like to ask if a MPPT algorithm for a PV panel always needs a buck converter? I want to use a MPPT algorithm for a pv panel which is then connected to a battery charge controller and a battery. But since I want to simulate that for a whole day of sun light, the discrete time powergui needed for the buck converter slows down the simulation time extremely. I was wondering if there is any other way to model the Maximum power of the PV module and control the battery.

Hello Eleni,
you will alwyas need some sort of converter to implement MPPT. MPPT has you control the current out of the solar panel to optimize energy extraction. You can use average models to speed up your simulation. Please see my response to your other question. To get faster than an average model, you would need a behavioral model that eliminated the MPPT algorithm. You can see that done in this simulation which is very fast: https://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/51137-one-year-simulation-in-one-minute. But you won't get use a specific MPPT algorithm for it.
Regards,
Joel
