How to export and import images while maintaining the resolution?

Hi there

I wish to export a figure with a given pixel resolution (i.e. Matrix size) to a format understood by Photoshop, perform a few basic changes, and import it again (using f.ex. imread), such that it has the same resolution upon re-import. Currently when I export a figure using print, imwrite or export_fig the figure returns with slightly less resolution upon import.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
