I found CPU (one core constants running at 100%) for my simulink design (update, simulation, code generation), same process seemed to be a little (just a little) easier in R2012b.
Ubuntu 10.10 x64, i7-2600K@3.4GHz, 16GB Ram
Not SSD (don't see much disk I/O) activity, so didn't go for SSD yet.
