fitting one dimensional data to sum of gaussians....

Hello, I am using lsqcurvefit for fitting a sum of gaussians to a one dimensional data...It is not plotting the accurate fit...on the contrary when I use fit (e.x gauss8) it is very accurate and fast...but my ultimate aim is fitting 3D data..so 8 gaussians wouldnt be enough

in lsqcurvefit I am defining sum of gaussians by the help of iteration... Can you help me out...I am stuck in this... Is there a modification to gauss8 in fit to use more than 8 gausians..
