Help in Segment microscopic image

I am working on micorscopic images. The main mocrscopic feature resides in center of the image. I want to segment the image for proper feature engineering. Also please suggest me the features taht can be used to classficy the image. Thank You.

I'd suggest taking a look at the documentation for Image Processing Toolbox, especially this similar example:
