About Watershed in image processing toolbox

Hi everyone, I need help in understanding/explanation on how the mathematical formulation of watershed algorithm (how matlab could flood the image from minima, form catchment basin and construct the watershed lines) relates to watershed command in image processing toolbox eg watershed(I). Thank you.
