Whats the best method for segmenting such binary image into subimages for further template matching (OCR)

If you could just guide me to the starting point of such process, i would be grateful. Thank you

Can you show us what you would expect the two sub-images to be? Can we assume that there is always a box, and that it is always in exactly the same location? Or close? And are there always going to be two sets of numbers? And one is always on the upper left and one is always in the lower right? Or might the numbers and symbols be scattered all over the place? Do you want to ignore the box and only get two sets of symbols? If you have the same font in all images and good quality for the symbols, you can do OCR very simply by just looking at the area of each symbol.
