VideoWriter Compression Formats

I have made a movie user the VideoWriter class, the video looks good. The problem I'm having is that the video is 30 seconds long (it has 1000 frames) and it is somehow 400 MB. The background is static too. Is there any way I can use decent compression (mpeg, h.264, wmv) instead of these jpeg based ones?
I would not like to change my code too much.
