How does MATLAB linearize nonlinear friction (e.g. translational friction block out of simscape) ?

Hi,
I have a question concerning the linearization of simscape models using the linmod command. How would MATLAB linearize nonlinear friction like the one given in the documentation of the translational friction block out of simscape ?
Furthermore, is there any way to create only coulomb friction using this block ?
