@Zhangziyi Zhou - please clarify what you mean by you can only run to cursor. What is the cursor? Are you having trouble inserting breakpoints into your code?
@Geoff Hayes I added a picture to the post. Buttons for step in out or continue or quit are all gray, and I only get to choose run to cursor.
@Zhangziyi Zhou - is that screen shot before or after you have pressed the RUN button? Did you add breakpoints before you pressed the RUN button? Or has the debugger already passed the line where there is a breakpoint and none follow, thus the debugging buttons are greyed out?

Does it persist when you restart Matlab? And when you reboot?
@Geoff Hayes It's after I pressed run. I added breakpoints, and the pragram stopped there but doesn't let me progress step by step. the break point is placed in the middle of the script
@Matt J Oh it worked after I restart Matlab. I had two versions opened not sure if that caused the problem. Thanks.
