MATLAB crashes with stack trace containing "ISD_Tablet.dll" and "WacomExtHook"

MATLAB crashes when I have MATLAB open and then lock the Windows screen or put it to sleep mode. The crash log shows the following stack trace:

The crash might be due to an issue between MATLAB and Wacom drivers.

To resolve the issue, try the following workarounds:

• Stop “Wacom ISD Service” from the services app (run "services.msc"). You may need to log in as an administrator. 
• Uninstall the Wacom driver.
• Roll back the Wacom driver to an older version.
