How to create an envelope on a tone burst signal?

How to create an envelope on a signal? For example a signal which has a kind of hanning window recorded from a acquisition card. That means the data points will be available but needs to draw an envelope on the total signal. In fact there is a need to find out the phase difference between two signals obtained from equipment. I hope it is best to create envelopes on individual data sets and then find out the phase difference. Is there any better way to do this? Is this possible by using Hilbert transform?
