Matlab can not find Visual Studio C++ compiler

I have the 2019a version of MATLAB. I also have Visual Studio Community 2019 installed with MSVC v 141. However, when I try to change my compiler form MinGW to Visual Studio C++, mex can not find the said compiler. What could be the issue?
>> mex -setup cpp -v

Thank you for your response! I have matlab installed in the diectory mentioned in:
MATLAB 2018b cannot find Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 compiler when I run mex -setup - MATLAB Answers - MATLAB Central (mathworks.com)
but I am still getting this error.
I followed the mex setup instructions for c compiler as well but that didn't do it either.
Is there anything else I can try?

Also, could it be because I don't have matlab installed on the default C drive where visual studio is installed?

Installing VS fully instead of only the build tools might help, it did for me:
Be sure to install the whole Visual Studio program, not only the build tools (MSVC v142 - VS 2019 C++), as otherwise MATLAB can't find it.
Tried getting MSVC v142 - VS 2019 C++ to work with MATLAB R2021a, running the following:
mex -setup -v C++
Resulted in:
Did not find installed compiler 'Microsoft Visual C++ 2019'.
After uninstalling MATLAB and VS Build Tools 2019, and installing MATLAB again and VS 2019 fully, not only the build tools, it worked out.
