Why does submitting a MATLAB Grader solution not update my local workspace in MATLAB Online?

When I submit a MATLAB Grader solution for assessment in MATLAB Online, the assessment test results are displayed, but my local workspace variabes are not updated. Why?

When you submit your solution for grading in MATLAB Online, your submission is not run in the MATLAB Online session, but rather the solution is graded asynchronously by MATLAB Grader in the cloud. The workspace will only be updated when running your solution in MATLAB Online.
