Hallo zusammen,

Hi Mark,
For simulating a waste-to-energy (WTE) plant with CO2 capture system, Simscape and its various toolboxes in MATLAB and Simulink offer a robust platform for modelling and simulation of physical systems, including thermal, electrical, and mechanical systems which are integral parts of a WTE plant.
Key Features and Toolboxe include:
  • Simscape Foundation Libraries: Include basic elements for electrical, thermal, and mechanical systems. Use these to model basic operations of a WTE plant, such as combustion and energy conversion processes.
  • Simscape Fluids: This is particularly useful for modelling fluid dynamics in the plant, including gas flows and CO2 capture liquid or solvent systems. It provides components for hydraulic and pneumatic systems, which can be crucial for detailed modelling of the CO2 absorption and desorption processes.
  • Simscape Electrical: Useful for simulating the electrical systems within the plant, including power generation and distribution aspects.
  • Simscape Multibody: For modelling any mechanical aspects, such as conveyors for waste handling or mechanical components in the CO2 capture system.
There may not be pre-built subsystems specifically for waste-to-energy plants or CO2 capture systems. However, one can create custom components using the Simscape language, which allows for the modelling of complex physical phenomena that are not covered by standard libraries.
Also, can use MATLAB alongside to process simulation data from Simscape, perform sensitivity analysis, and evaluate economic indicators like Net Present Value (NPV) or Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE).
Please refer to the following documentation links for getting started-
Hope it helps!
Best Regards,
Simar
