why can I only edit one script?

Somehow I have reset Matlab to that I can only edit one script at a time. Can you suggest what I am doing wrong? Thanks.

What happens if you double-click another filename in the Current Folder panel? Doesn't it open it into a new, separate tab/window? Or does it close the first one and then open the one you clicked on?

You should be able to have multiple Editor tabs available so that you can edit a script in each tab.
In the Editor and with the 'Editor' tab (the other tabs that I can see are 'Publish' and 'View'), click on either 'New' or 'Open' as appropriate to start a new script or open and load an existing one, each in its own tab.

Thanks, but as soon as I click on 'open' and choose another script to edit, the current script goes away leaving me with just one script. Therefore, I can't accept your answer.
I assume by 'goes away', it doesn't simply open and switch to another tab, as it should, leaving the original script in its own tab.
There should be an arrow (barely visible in some instances) that is oriented either horizontally or vertically, to the left of the only open tab. Clicking on it should reveal other open tabs that you can then click on to reveal their contents. It may be necessary to widen the Editor to see all the open tabs, expecially if it's not docked. If it is docked, un-dock it by clicking on the 'Dock' symbol in the upper right corner, and select 'Undock'.
Alternatively, close the editor entirely, and in the MATLAB Desktop, click 'Open' in the 'Home' section of the top toolstrip, and select the first file you want to edit. (I managed to screw-up the Editor while I was experimenting with this, and had to do exactly that.) You may also have to undock the Editor after it opens.
Without seeing how you have the Editor configured (docked or undocked) and exactly what the problem may be, it is difficult for me to determine what the problem is. That makes solving it significantly more difficult.

@David Koenig are you running windows? If so type "steps" into the search field on the task bar and create a video showing all the steps as you go through your process of trying to open an additional window.
Thanks for the suggestion. i can't get it to work.

Thanks for your help. I had moved my laptop to a different location (different hook ups,...). I just re-installed my laptop in the original place and found that my editor problems have gone away. Sorry about the distraction. I have no idea why I had those problems with my editor.
