Real time video processing on matlab

Greetings everyone,

Currently I'm trying to implement real time video processing on human activity on Matlab, I do aware that there is tool called "Image Acquisition Toolbox" which contains all the functions needed. However, I found that my school university license does not have this toolbox, so I'm here to ask if anyone else has experience of getting video data into Matlab without the toolbox, I'm planning to use my laptop camera as first try to implement the method.
