Is it possible to access the code behind the identification toolbox?

I would like to know how the identification toolbox determines the pw linear functions. How do the breakpoints relate to the pw functions?

Many MATLAB and Toolbox functions are written in MATLAB itself. For those, you typically open them in the Editor window with
edit functionname.m
and see what is going on "under the hood". However that is not the case all functions. Many are not written in MATLAB, and are not editable.

If you can edit an m-file, sometimes you can see some of the code, but the real heavy lifting is done by a call to a DLL inside that m-file, so you can only get so far. They'll do that (I think) either for performance (speed) reasons or to keep that part of the source code proprietary.

One afterthought: The documentation (including the headers of functions) often cites reference material for the algorithms being used. These can be handy for determining what MATLAB is doing.

Thank you. I will see if I can access/edit the source code by using your advice.
