communication using matlab

i want to know whether we can send a byte from matlab to microcontroller using spi connection????if yes may i know how???i want to switch on my webcam using matlab when ordered by the microcontroller.....i tried using uart but it is very slow....camera switches on 10 min after the data is sent....... any help is highly appreciated

I2C/SPI is a protocol that is not compatible with any hardware that normally occurs in a PC. In particular it is definitely not compatible with UART. Please see http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/16808-matlab-to-hc12.

You would need some kind of interface hardware and you would need to figure out how to talk to the interface.
