What would be the most ideal way of creating sounds for a hearing test using Matlab?

I am required to make a hearing test that tests the users hearing at certain frequency levels. I am supposed to play a certain frequency for about 3 seconds and test a range of frequencies from 20 Hz to 30k Hz. If they cannot hear a certain frequency I am supposed to increase the sound bit by 10 dB until they are able to hear it. This way I can plot the results and see a line plot on how it takes higher dB to hear higher frequencies. What Matlab function would be most efficient in doing this? I really only know of soundsc but I do not know how to modify dB’s with it. Thanks in advance.
