Tracking Pedestrians from a Moving Car

I am a newcomer to matlab and computer vision.I saw the example 'tracking pedestrians from a moving car' last week and met lots of problem. I wonder how can i adjust the code to adapt to our real situation(some trees and traffic sign were also detected) and reduce program run time.Thanks.
