Matlab R2016a license issue

I maintain Matlab for my cluster here using network licenses. I have been doing this since many years back. Whenever I get a new version of licenses, say, for R2017a, I will first upgrade the license servers to serve out these new licenses. And the older Matlab binaries, say R2014b or R2015a will run properly without any issue, because I set the SERVER to the networked license server names.
However, with the latest R2017a license, I am getting an issue with specifically R2016a binaries. Whenever I start up Matlab R2016a, it will ask me to activate my license, and the activation always fails with a message saying network licenses cannot be activated. Strange thing is that the other versions, R2014 and R2015 work fine with the R2017a licenses. Can you help to resolve this issue? Is there a but in R2016a licensing?

Request to provide MATLAB 2016a license key

The volunteers who answer questions here do not have access to the license database, and so cannot provide license keys.
If you already have a MATLAB license for R2016a or later, then you can use R2016a with the existing license, following the usual activation procedures. Any license that is at least as new R2016a will permit you to run R2016a.
If you do not already have a MATLAB license for R2016a or later, then you will need to obtain a license. You can purchase a current license and then use the backwards compatibility that I mentioned in the previous paragraph.

This sounds like a problem for the official support of MathWorks, not for the public forum.
