Setting up timer on my GUI application.

Hello everyone, I have recently created a Matlab GUI based application. I need to add a timer to the GUI which shows the time elapsed since the application is running (i.e. time elapsed from when I opened the application). I tried to use 'cputime' command but was not able to display it in a edit text box. Can anyone please let me know the best way to do this ?
