To create a native crash dump for the MATLAB process on a Windows Machine, do the following:
  1. Open up Windows Command Prompt as Administrator
  2. Execute the following command:
    > set MW_CRASH_MODE=wait
  3. Start MATLAB from the same Command Prompt
  4. Perform the steps that cause MATLAB to crash. When MATLAB would otherwise crash, it will now hang instead.
  5. Open Windows Task Manager
    1. Expand the MATLAB <version> process
    2. Right-click on the MATLAB <version> process
    3. Select "Create dump file" - The "Dumping Process" will start and at the end will indicate where the file has been saved.
  6. Use Task Manager to end the MATLAB process
The above process will create a full memory dump, which contains a lot of information that can be used to help troubleshoot the crash.
Note
that MW_CRASH_MODE is an undocumented feature, and may change at any time.
