syms command does not execute, even having Symbolic toolbox, and matlab gets stuck, how can I solve this problem

Even trying to create a single symbolic variable Matlab shows "Executing Current Section" and it never creates it in the workspace. I have checked with the "which" command and it gives me a unique path to the folder in the toolbox. Before it used to work, but then suddenly it cannot create anymore symbolic variables and Matlab gets stuck completely and the only solution is to completely shut it down. Can please somebody help me? It would be really appreciated.
