Simlunk writes wrong characters. Uses a wrong keyboard.

Dear Members, I am using SIMULINK add on in an Ubuntu system along with an German keyboard. While the same keyboard functions well in MATLAB environment, it fails to do so in SIMULINK. I get strange characters as an output in SIMULINK. For e.g. on typing "QWERTZUIOP" in the keyboard, I get the output of "c.gvn*mlzx". As you would see, I cannot possibly map this to any form of keyboard. And I have both USA and German keyboard locales installed. Kindly suggest how this can be fixed.
