Changing height Z axis in 3D scatter plot

I have a 3D scatter plot. My issue is that the X and Y axis are latitudes and longitudes and are stored in the arrays “LAT and LON” respectively. The Z axis contains depths and is stored in the array “DEPTH”. The problem is that the latitude and longitudes are distances of hundreds of yards apart and the depths are at a maximum depth of 20 yards. When Matlab plots out the data, the 3D plane is a square, therefore the Z plane is scaled at 0 to 30 yards where the latitudes and longitudes that make up the X-Y plane are (when you convert from lat/long to yards) in a scale of a few thousand yards. Is there any way to make it so that the 3D plane is more to scale? That is, have the Z-axis come up in height only a small amount as compared to the X-Y axis without really changing the scales?
